University of Michigan’s Jewish Business Association Explores Detroit’s Innovation Scene

Written by Rachel Fine, MIBA Community Engagement Manager

Welcoming members of the University of Michigan’s Jewish Business Association (JBA) to MIBA was a fantastic opportunity to connect with future business leaders. As part of their recent trek through Detroit, this group of 12 ambitious students explored the city’s business and cultural institutions, gaining insights into the intersection of innovation, community, and economic development.

During their visit, I had the opportunity to introduce them to MIBA’s mission and capabilities. I shared how we foster business relationships between Michigan and Israel, facilitating innovation and collaboration across multiple sectors.

Beyond learning about our impact, JBA members participated in an interactive startup pitch activity. They analyzed case studies of real Israeli startups that have worked with MIBA and stepped into the role of entrepreneurs, crafting and delivering investment pitches. This hands-on experience challenged them to think critically about business strategy and the global startup ecosystem, reinforcing the importance of cross-border innovation between Michigan and Israel.

Their trek through Detroit also included visits to other key locations. Before arriving at MIBA, they stopped at the Pistons Practice Center. After their time with us, they continued on to The Downtown Synagogue, connecting with Detroit’s vibrant Jewish community.

Hosting JBA was an inspiring experience, and I always enjoy engaging with the next generation of business leaders. Their visit highlighted the value of building global partnerships and the opportunities available to young professionals interested in entrepreneurship and economic development. I look forward to continuing to foster connections between Michigan and Israel and to welcoming more students and young professionals eager to learn about MIBA’s work.
