Capturing Innovation: Ashkelon’s MTech and Beersheba’s Tech7
Written by Naomi Miller, MIBA Director of Israel Partnerships
The MIBA Israel team continued on its quest to uncover promising startups whose innovations are impacting the world. This month, we visited a ‘street’ innovation center. MTech opened its doors just a month before October 7th. In a most impressive way, the innovation center itself moved at entrepreneurial speed to establish a modern and welcoming base for entrepreneurs living in Ashkelon.
At the MTech Innovation Center in Ashkelon, a southern coastal city close to the Gaza Envelope, the MIBA Israel team encountered creative and enthusiastic startups focusing on Food & AgTech, Homeland Security, HealthTech, logistics as well as numerous social initiatives. A number of these entrepreneurs arrived directly to our meeting from their reserve duty. While the Start Up Nation’s epicenter is in the most populated region of the country, the area in and around Tel Aviv, Mtech is aiming, along with several similar incubators, to promote innovation and entrepreneurship by attracting talent to create, grow and settle in Israel’s geographical and socio-economic periphery.
